Joe Daaaaaaaaanger!!!!

On our first day at the Eurogamer Expo in London, I almost missed a treasure chest of exciting games and applications. Hidden in plain view was the Indie Game Arcade section. Unfortunately I discovered this just at the end of day one and had no time to explore. Day 2 first stop the indie section, so much great work going on outside of the main development camps and even more impressive is the scale many of these teams are micro in numbers but massive in output.

We were drawn to Joe Danger a forthcoming ‘Stunt-em-up’ (a hybrid game that combines the use of a motorbike with elements associated with games such as classic Sonic games) by the instantly addictive cry of Daaaaaanger ! From across the room. As I approached the guys from Hello games were discussing it with someone else. The main character Joe Danger strikes a purposeful pose on the poster above the spot where the game is being demoed. The colours are vibrant the action is fast and looks like a whole lot of fun.

As I waited in line to try this game, it struck me that there has been a resurgence in the indie market and that we may be entering a period much like that of the early 1980′s when the opportunity to place your mark on the gaming landscape was a realistic possibilty on systems such as the Commodore 64, Amstrad and ZX Spectrum.

Each time a Letter is collected you hear, Daaaaanger but that is just the start, Watch the clip for a word from the developers.

The multiple game modes, the multiplayer options the fresh and vibrant colour palette, solid game physics and then there’s the game editor – this has the makings of a cult classic, mods galore.

In short this game is one to keep on the Gamealysis radar, I for one will be purchasing this as soon as it is released, it is slated for a spring 2010 release.
